Overdetermined boundary value problems for the ∞-Laplacian
We consider overdetermined boundary value problems for the ∞-Laplacian in a domain Ω of Rn and discuss what kind of implications on the geometry of Ω the existence of a solution may have. The classical ∞-Laplacian, the normalized or game-theoretic ∞-Laplacian and the limit of the p-Laplacian as p→∞ are considered and provide different answers. متن کاملElliptic Boundary-Value Problems
In the first part of this chapter we focus on the question of well-posedness of boundary-value problems for linear partial differential equations of elliptic type. The second part is devoted to the construction and the error analysis of finite difference schemes for these problems. It will be assumed throughout that the coefficients in the equation, the boundary data and the resulting solution ...
متن کاملOn partially and globally overdetermined problems of elliptic type
We consider some elliptic PDEs with Dirichlet and Neumann data prescribed on some portion of the boundary of the domain and we obtain rigidity results that give a classification of the solution and of the domain. In particular, we find mild conditions under which a partially overdetermined problem is, in fact, globally overdetermined: this enables to use several classical results in order to cl...
متن کاملCounterexamples to Symmetry for Partially Overdetermined Elliptic Problems
We exhibit several counterexamples showing that the famous Serrin’s symmetry result for semilinear elliptic overdetermined problems may not hold for partially overdetermined problems, that is when both Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions are prescribed only on part of the boundary. Our counterexamples enlighten subsequent positive symmetry results obtained by the first two authors for suc...
متن کاملOn an Eighth Order Overdetermined Elliptic Boundary Value Problem
We consider the overdetermined boundary value problem for the 4-harmonic operator, Δ4 = Δ(Δ3) , and show that if the solution of the problem exists, then the domain must be an open N -ball (N 2) . As a consequence of overdetermined problems mean value results are obtained for harmonic, biharmonic, triharmonic and 4-harmonic functions.
